The New Year

Howdy Friends,

Happy New Year. I’m two weeks late on the greeting but that’s how long it’s taken me to salt the driveway in my mind. Lots going on already, mostly with the New Scotland Yard studio where I’ve been setting up shop and preparing to produce a record with Sean McCann from Great Big Sea at the end of the month. Sean was just here for some pre-production and we’ve assembled a mighty band to back him up with Dave Marsh, Clive McNutt and Erin Costelo.

As Sean heads back to NLFD for a few weeks, Meredith Shaw arrives on Monday for some “pre-pro” for the EP I am recording for her. Some sweet pop songs, one called Trouble which we wrote together, that will be really fun to record.

I’m heading to Asbury Park in New Jersey for the Light of Day Festival next weekend. It’s a benefit for Parkinson’s and I’ll be playing a couple songs on the mainstage on Saturday night as well as a song writers cicle by the sea on Sunday. I haven’t been to Asbury Park since the mid 1990’s when The Hermit made a Springsteen pilgrimage there to check out the Stone Pony and the boardwalk. I have some Eastern US dates opening for Rusted Root in March too. Green bills.

Damn, the Horseshoe was a fun way to end last year. Epic 5 nights. Came home with the flu that hit 4 of the 5 of us traveling, but it was worth it. Matt McKechnie was there to capture the shenanigans and here are links to his Horseshoe videos. Precious memories indeed.
