Joel Plaskett to host JUNO Songwriters' Circle

CANADA’S FINEST SONGWRITERS SHARE THEIR STORIES BEHIND THE SONGS AT SONGWRITERS’ CIRCLE

Music fans from coast to coast can tune in LIVE on CBC Radio with Jian Ghomeshi to hear JUNO Award nominees AlexCuba, Jeremy Fisher, Serena Ryder, Tegan and Sara, and Host of Songwriters’ Circle, Joel Plaskett.

Calgary, AB (February 27, 2008) – The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) today announced the group of talented JUNO Award-nominated singer-songwriters who will be sharing in Songwriters’ Circle, presented by the Canadian Music Publishers Association (CMPA) and the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN) on Sunday, April 6th, 2008. CARAS also announced that CBC Radio One and CBC Radio 2 will broadcast the event live-to-air to listeners across Canada for the third consecutive year.

Songwriters’ Circle will be held at EPCOR CENTRE’s Jack Singer Concert Hall (205 8th Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB) on Sunday, April 6th happening from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. (MST).

The intimate afternoon concert will be hosted by one of today’s most exciting songwriters, Joel Plaskett, the front man of Joel Plaskett Emergency and 2008 JUNO Award nominee for Songwriter of the Year. Plaskett will join fellow esteemed Canadian songwriters and JUNO Award nominees AlexCuba, JeremyFisher, Serena Ryder and Tegan and Sara.

The writers will share with fans some of their unique creative processes, challenges and songwriting successes, all the while telling personal anecdotes behind their favourite songs. More artists will be announced to join Songwriters’ Circle in the coming weeks.

This year’s CBC broadcast will be hosted by Jian Ghomeshi, host of Q, CBC Radio One’s daily dose of arts, culture and entertainment. Although he is best known as a national on-air personality, Ghomeshi is also a musician, singer and songwriter at heart.

Tickets for Songwriters’ Circle go on sale Saturday, March 1st at 10 a.m. (MST) at all Ticketmaster outlets, online at www.ticketmaster.ca or by calling 403-777-0000. Tickets are priced at $34.75 and $39.75 each (plus applicable service charges). Proceeds from Songwriters’ Circle benefit CARAS’ music education program, MusiCan.
