Wow, we’re fairly chuffed after hearing that Ashtray Rock has been nominated for the second annual Polaris Prize – just announced today. This very cool Canadian prize for music is voted on by music critics nationally and today’s press conference at The Drake Hotel in Toronto was to announce the short-list of the ten nominated artists.
We’re happy to say the Joel Plaskett Emergency finds themselves in the company of these other fantastic Canadian artists: Arcade Fire, Besnard Lakes, The Dears, Feist, Julie Doiron, Miracle Fortress, Chad Van Gaalen, Patrick Watson and Junior Boys. Congratulations to everyone and thanks to the Polaris Prize jury for the flattering nod.
OH! For those of you in the Halifax area, don’t forget the Emergency’s only summertime show in the region. That would be on July 20th at Alderney Landing (by the Dartmouth ferry terminal). Also on the bill is pal Peter Elkas and his excellent band, as well as the always lovely Jenn Grant. Come on out and say “hi.”
