Canada Day Alderney Landing

The Joel Plaskett Emergency does not need much of a review here as they are covered frequently. As always, Joel brought things down with an entertaining set full of songs off his album Three, as well as old favourites and even a new song. Sailors Eyes was dedicated to the sailors that were in Halifax as part of fleet week and the 100th year celebration of Canada’s navy. Both Rose Cousins and Ana Egge joined the band for many of the songs throughout the night. Joel’s father Bill Plaskett came out and played guitar near the end of the show for Love This Town. David Myles and David Christensen played saxophone and trumpet on Come On Teacher and Through & Through & Through. A new song titled The Island Girls and Harbour Boys was played for the first time live at the show, an upbeat song with a catchy and easy to sing along with chorus. True Patriot Love was extra special being played on Canada Day with a crowd clad in red and white. As Wishful Thinking was finishing up, fireworks began to light up Halifax Harbour. The crowd sang Oh Canada and enjoyed the firework show, a display that capped off a perfect summer’s day.
