Uh Oh… we lost a month

Sometimes the technology gets the better of us…

We’ve somehow lost a month of posts on The Skinny and I apologize that we didn’t notice it earlier…

I can’t reproduce Joel’s pithy and prosaic prose from memory but I will get to the pith and that’s to draw attention to the fact that The Emergency is continuing with the now-legendary tradition of New Year’s Eve at The Marquee Club in Halifax…

In fact (and this is something Joel actually loses sleep over) each year the band spends cuckoo amounts of time trying to figure out how the current NYE show can top the one from the year before… Well, let’s get something straight from the get-go, this band would never – EVER – cut themselves some slack in their hometown. This year’s show will KILL…

Joel and the lads (Dave Marsh on the tubs and Chris “The Elk” Pennell on bass) are planning to rock Halifax in their usual inimitable fashion. If you’re lucky enough to (A) be in the Halifax/Dartmouth area and (B) get a ticket before this thing sells out (oh, we’re about two weeks ahead of last year’s sell-out schedule, by the way) you’ll be treated to an opening set by one of Canada’s coolest bands – The Golden Dogs – and TWO Emergency sets that will include lots of newly recorded songs, as well as the usual “impossible-to-predict-who’ll-show-up” action we’ve all come to expect of this Nova Scotia-only event. “Be there, or be square,” as they so famously say…

The new news for this weekend is that the band – along with the aforementioned Golden Dogs – will be doing an ALL AGES show on Saturday, December 30th. The doors of The Marquee Club will open at 6 PM and the show will get underway with two winning bands from The Pavilion’s Battle Of The Bands contest playing in Hell (the downstairs space at The Marquee). Tickets for the show are on sale at Sam’s and Frozen Ocean on Barrington St. as well as Music Stop locations in Halifax, Dartmouth and Bedford. They’re also available on-line at MapleMusic.com. The AA show is $15 in advance and I doubt there’ll be any available at the door, just so you know…

Tickets for New Year’s Eve proper are $30 (same as last year) and they’re available at the same ticket locations. If I was a betting guy, I’d suspect those will sell out by December 21st. That’s my prediction and if you didn’t get any (even one) by then, don’t come crawling to me – you’ve been officially warned…

The Golden Dogs. The Joel Plaskett Emergency. New Year’s Weekend. Halifax/Dartmouth. What are you waiting for!?!
