Soundtrack For The Night

Yeah I loved our band
I don’t have one regret
I even liked our first to records on cassette
They were the soundtrack for the night
You and me had that fight
Out in the woods over some girl we met

We’d turn the music up
Roll the windows down
We’d beat the clock to the Ashtray Rock
To make the world stop spinning round

We’d push and then we’d shove
Singing “Who do you love?”
Sisters, brothers, friends or lovers
All of the above?

Through the summer we swore we’d stick together
Under the radar we’d fly so high forever
If they caught us we knew they’d never prove it
All that mattered was you and me driving round here listening to music

Anybody, anybody else would be gone long gone
Anybody, anybody else would be gone long gone
Anybody, anybody else would be gone long gone
Anybody, anybody else would be gone long gone

The summer came and went
And all the colours changed
Leaves came down and people they got strange
I never thought that you
Would turn from pink to blue
Before my very eyes and back again
“Don’t resist it,” you said, “we’re getting older”
You saw her lipstick in red upon my shoulder
For the first time I swore you looked right through me
All that mattered anymore was that 1940’s beauty

Anybody, anybody else would be gone long gone
Anybody, anybody else would be gone long gone
Anybody, anybody else would be gone long gone
Anybody, anybody else would be gone long gone

Yeah, I stole your girl
And if I have one regret
It’s that I lost you the first time I set my eyes on her

In the town where we grew up
We all got drunk and you threw up
You fell asleep out on my lawn
My parents you later on
Before we could get into bars
We’d lie outside beneath the stars
But now we spent our nights at home
Beneath fluorescent lights alone
Before the beauty showed her hand
Broke our hearts broke up our band

When Dave Boyd ran for president
He pledged that he would build a pool
Beneath the floor of the school gym
Whatever happened to him
He didn’t win
